The Sixty Taisui Star-Lords

Step across the threshold - Each of the sixty years of the great calendar cycle is governed by its own star-general — a Taisui. In the Yuanchen halls of the great temples, all sixty sit in circle around Doumu Yuanjun, the Star Mother of the Dipper.

Each of the sixty years in the great cycle of the Chinese calendar is governed by its own star-lord — a Taisui, or Great General of the Year, each said to have been a historical figure of loyalty and righteousness. The general matching your birth year is your 'natal Taisui'; the general governing the current year is the 'Taisui on duty'. In the Yuanchen halls of the great temples, all sixty statues sit around Doumu Yuanjun, the Star Mother of the Dipper — the same Doumu as in Hall Three of this museum.

Each year one of the sixty descends to govern the fortune and misfortune of the world. His direction is honored and not disturbed — no ground is broken facing him.

拜謝科儀 · Worship & Thanksgiving

Devotees worship their Taisui in the first lunar month for a peaceful year, and give thanks in the eleventh month. The joint feast day of all sixty Taisui Star-lords is the 19th day of the seventh lunar month.
